Sent to Gene Wilder a couple weeks back and received this note from his assistant the other day. I figured this would happen, but thought it was worth a shot! As an actor myself, I really respect the guy and might try sending my letter without any autograph requests just to express my appreciation for his work.

Re: Gene Wilder Rejection
He signs the well written letters that his secretary will pass on. The boring begging letters that say oh I loved you in stir crazy and that errr frankenstine movie and blazing saddles so will you please sign my photos??? Lol. etc etc well his secretary ignores those and he never even gets to see them. Believe me that's true.... And his sec sends people this letter above....
So my advice is if your going to write to him then I suggest you make an effort at what you write, and you send a well thought out letter. Then you might get a result like I did.
Just saying.

Re: Gene Wilder Rejection
I think it's good that he ignores the beggers. I hand wrote a thoughtful letter telling him that I also am an actor and after a small sample of the hard work it takes to truly be good at the craft, my respect for him has really grown. Also mentioned how much I enjoyed an interview I saw of his from back in the day and asked if he had any advice for budding performers. I'll probably try again sometime, but understand that he can't possibly reply to everyone.
