Mailing to celebrities home addresses?

Is it considered rude and is the success rate of sent back autographs high when doing so?
What are your experiences of mailing ti an celebrity's home address?

it's not favored. i got a hilary duff success that way and tried for miley cyrus but got no reply.

Some celebrities will sign from their home address, but there are many who don't because they don't want to confirm that the address is valid. Doing so risks being flooded at home with mail or being harassed by overzealous fans.

I've tried a handful in the past, but I've since grown an opinion against writing to personal addresses. I feel like I'm invading someone's private time. The response rate was 50/50.
