I KNOW ALL ABOUT ACID FREE SLEEVES AND BINDERS FOR MY 8 X 10 PHOTOS BUT: WHEN I LAY THE BINDERS ON A SHELF STANDING UP AND PRESSED TOGETHER THEY KIND OF WANT TO WARP A LITTLE WHEN YOU (FOR WHATEVER REASON) TAKE THEM OUT OF THE SLEEVES. WHEN I STORE THE BINDERS FLAT ON A SHELF, A COUPLE ONE ON TOP OF THE OTHER, THEY CURL UP LENGTHWISE WHEN THEY ARE OUT OF THE SLEEVE. I KNOW ONE CAN SAY DON'T TAKE THEM OUT OF THE SLEEVES BUT WHICH WAY TO STORE THE BINDERS, FLAT OR STANDING UP? ALSO IF THEY ARE TO BE KEPT FLAT, SHOULD THERE BE WEIGHT ON THEM TO KEEP AIR OUT (LIKE WELL PRESERVED COMIC BOOKS) OR WOULD THE WEIGHT BE PRESSING THE AUTOGRAPH AGAINST THE PHOTO AND DO MORE HARM THAN GOOD?

I keep all my signed 8x10s in a standard D-Ring binder with heavy-weight sheet protectors. So far, none of them seem to have faded, and the first ones I got are now ten years old.

I'm in my 50s and have been collecting autographs for awhile. I keep mine in acid free clear sleeves with acid free white cardboards and have them in ringed binders.

HERE'S A GOOD QUESTION

Should you store the binders standing up pressed closed on either side or laying down seperately so the autographs aren't pressed into the sleeve, or, weighted on top of each other to keep air out? As far as preservation goes - what is the best method?

I use these in my binder: http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/4 ... /#firstTab

The description says this:
Provides premium page protection for your documents.
Top-loading design — no need to open and close binder pages.
Nonstick surface won't lift ink off the page.
Letter size, acid free and archival safe.

I usually keep them in a drawer or frame them.

90% of my collection so far is on index cards- I store these in some spare mylar comic bags... then store this in a short box a long with a few signed comics. Paper unfortunately, as has been mentioned, is prone to all kinds of damage. Its the nature of the beast but if you keep it in stable, low humidity/dry room at an even enough temp this should avoid warping etc. Obviously UV from sunlight will wipe that pretty autograph off pretty sharpish if you keep it in direct sunlight...

some I keep in their original cd case, alot of them I have stuffed together in ziplock bags.
The 8X10's are in binders, encased in those clear folder-type sheets with the rings on them so they can be put in the three ring binders.
