I've tried to upload an image for my avatar and resize it...I just can't get it to work. Any suggestions? Am I just being a bit slow?!

If it has to do with the file size too large, then just host (upload) it onto another site like http://imageshack.us, and just insert the URL into the place "Link Off-site
".

where is the picture currently located? If it's on your computer you can email it to me and I can set it up.
