For anybody living around Phoenix Arizona.

http://www.phoenixcomicon.com/

This coming weekend. It should be fun. I am very excited to meet Noel Neill. (50's Lois Lane) Being the big Superman junky that I am. She is the only person that played Lois Lane that I haven't met IP yet. And of course a few other big stars are coming out as well.

Hi ROXYRORY,

Here's a few conventions I was able to find. Really all you need to do is google "Autograph Conventions in Ireland" or things along that line, and search through a bunch of sites.

P-Con V
MeCon Convention 11
Octocon: The National Irish Science Fiction Convention
Dublin City Comic Con
I know the last one shows info for 2007, but the one for this year is supposed to be held in November...it's still TBA, but keep an eye out for when they update the new stuff. {up}

well since you asked for opinions... ;-)

i've been to two different conventions (multiple times each), so i thought i'd share.

the first convention was run by creation (it was a lord of the rings convention, but they do xena, sci fi, lost, etc). i have to say that even though it is very expensive, you usually get what you pay for. it costs at least $25 per day just to get in the door, but you get entry into the presentations and merchandise area (i've found amazing things for sale!). autographs usually run $20-60 each (leonard nimoy costs $70!) and photo ops are similar. what's good is that they are ticketed and everyone waits patiently in line. :) the actors won't leave until everyone has gotten their item signed or photo taken. the bigger stars sign for 4 hours or more. you usually get a few minutes to chat as you go through the line. for photos, you are having a professional portrait taken with your celeb of choice. you usually get a nice hug too. ;-) i got to have my pic taken with david wenham the day after 300 premiered! they also have events where you can mingle with them at breakfast or cocktail parties. i had complaints about a lack of organization and some rude employees the first time, but the second and third convention were really much better in that regard. they were able to get some of the bigger or more difficult to get stars from the movies. in fact, i think that some actors were more willing to do it because they heard from the others how much fun (and probably how lucrative) it was. it's too bad that they couldn't keep that going, but i hope one day they'll start up again.

the second one is san diego comic con. it's a HUGE (100,000+ people) convention that just gets even bigger every year. i have gotten a few autographs here, i think. at the very least, it's a convenient way to make a star sighting. it costs about $75 to get in (for the whole event) now, which includes most of the events/discussions and entrance to the exhibit hall. you can buy a whole bunch of stuff here, including official autographs from the star wars booth. since there are so many attendees, most of the time stars will sign only for lottery winners or something like that (one year, i think the whole cast of spiderman 3 signed together). however, you might just spot a celeb walking around. i got a photo with bryan singer that way. rosario dawson and i ate cupcakes together. some will sign in the sails pavillion upstairs. usually the first auto is free up there. if they are appearing at a company's booth on the floor, though, you may end up paying $20 or more (mostly the stars wars type), though many are free. even if you don't get your pic or autograph, you will at least see some celebs. just a few off the top of my head who appeared in the last 5 years: natalie portman, gerard butler, naomi watts, jack black, adrien brody, charlize theron, gwyneth paltrow, terrence howard, robert downey jr., kate beckinsale, nicholas cage, rachel weisz, jamie foxx, jessica biel, jessica alba, the rock, steve carell, hilary swank, samuel l. jackson, the whole cast of spiderman 3, liv tyler, edward norton, and many more. lines are almost always VERY long and there is no guarantee that you will get into the panels or get an autograph, but hey. you also get a TON of free stuff from the movie studios: posters, tshirts, etc.

Lord of the Rings autos are all authentic and in-person.

I've been to a lot of conventions and most guest do charge a fee. Even if you have your own item they charge and some even charge for you to take a photo of them.
Anyway here are some shows coming up soon:

There's also the big Metropolis convention in Metropolis, Illinois that will have various Superman stars. I don't have a link to that yet but do know Allison Mack and Ned Betty will be there. It's June 12,13,14,and 15th. Someone told me that the two times they were at this show autographs were free but I wouldn't count on it.
