Why does this hobby seem to attract hostile people?

Post by LARams »

Among many forums I've noticed that people in the TTM hobby seem to be really rude to each other. Like I noticed people get really upset over autograph successes from a celebrity they dislike. Or if people don't share addresses people are pulling pitchforks out. I can respect somebody who wants to keep a private address from leaking out and people should respect that.

I always have no problems sharing my addresses in forums and on my blog if it's requested. Why does this hobby seem to attract some hostile people?
Favorite Autographs: Crew of the Enola Gay, Barack Obama, Leonardo DiCaprio, Hillary Clinton, Kirk Douglas, Peyton Manning, Tiger Woods.

Let's cut the nonsense.
You don't want a blog where some guy is trying to sell you his book of TTM "secrets" or trying to beg for donations.
You don't want a blog that will give your computer cancer with ads.
Gridiron Showcase is an ad-free and non-profit blog that documents addresses that actually work.

They will also get hostile if you share an address that might get “spammed”. You’re absolutely right and it is ridiculous.

It's not the hobby, it's social media and the anonymity.

Not sure if I understand you correctly. Can you explain more?

Using a screen name on a forum where it's unlikely you'll meet the person face to face gives one the ability to express opinions they may not otherwise do so, in ways they may not otherwise do so. Read Facebook comments. People want an avenue as their personal soapbox and bullying pulpit, not to exchange ideas. They don't care what other people think or feel. The only thing that matters is what they have to say.
