The ones you have chosen, though, have either been known not to sign through the mail, charge a fee (Bean), haven't signed TTM for years (Collins), or have recently stopped signing (Glenn). Many of the Apollo-era astronauts do charge for their signature. It's rare to get one for free now.

Without seeing an autograph in-person one can never be 100 percent sure. That said. if he does use a secretary, then my LOA means nothing and it should never have been sent. As well, I would think the secretary would sign his name so its readable.

While everyone has their own opinions about APs or secretarials, the way I see it receiving something back is always better than getting a RTS or nothing at all. Congrats. Sometimes, that's the luck of the draw. Somebody can get a positive response in five days, others in five weeks, still others not at all. Never send stuff that you can't afford to or don't want to lose. It's not a guarantee, but it may help to send a letter of inquiry along with a SASE, e.g., "...
